The Best Python Hosting 2020

What is Python Hosting?

As you already know, Python is a high-level programming language that is interpreted and object-oriented. The selection of the host should be done very carefully. In order to start that, you will be needing shell access. And the Apache installation should support CGI and mod_wsgi. Additionally, you have to confirm that any framework you are planning to use (like Django or Flask) is supported by the host.
And as the last step, you have to make sure the right version of Python is supported. So, today we are going to analyze the best Python hosts. They are,

  1. SiteGround with fast server speeds, strong security, and good value.
  2. Bluehost with a huge range of plans and free stuff
  3. A2 Hosting with incredible uptime and fast servers
  4. InMotion Hosting with secure US datacentres and scalable hosting
  5. HostGator with simple website transfers and free SEO credits

How did we select the best Python Hosts?

We selected the above five hosts from hundreds of hosts. Furthermore, we considered the following facts.

  • Whether their Python interpreters are up to date
  • Availability of popular frameworks
  • Any unreasonable use restrictions in place
  • Speed
  • Security
  • Performance
  • Value

After that we considered the expert and customer reviews to complete the review process.

How to find the best Python Hosting?

Python will be an excellent language to create web applications. But most of the hosts won’t offer that and won’t support much. So, we are going to introduce you to Python and help you to select the right Python host.

What is Python?

Python is devised in the late ’80s and it is an object-oriented programming language. It was named after Monty Python’s Flying Circus (a BBC TV comedy series in the ’70s). The language was designed to be enjoyed by the programmers while they are using it.
The current version is 3 and still, it’s a popular language among programmers.
Usually, “foo” and “bar” are some variables that are commonly used in documentation of programming languages. However, in Python, the common variables are named “spam”, “eggs” and “ham”.

Python is easier to learn

When compared with the other languages which are hard to understand and learn, Python is much easier to learn. And it has the benefit of cross-platform compatibility.
Even though Python can be coded in the Terminal app on macOS, it is commonly used for security applications, or web applications running on a Unix or Linux server.
The language is used by YouTube, Google, NASA, and CERN, the home of the Large Hadron Collider. Python is used by CERN to decode data from Atlas, one of the LHC sensors. Furthermore the CERN staff host Python conferences and uses Python extensively in their Physics and Computing labs.

Python Versions and Releases

When I am writing this Python is running on version 3.8.1 which was released on 18th December 2019. If you want to know more about the programming language, you can go through the various Python versions and their respective updates.
Moreover, Python supports a variety of operating systems like Windows, macOS, iOS, Linux/UNIX, AIX, Solaris, and VMS.
You can see the latest updates of version 3 below.

Version Release Date
Python 3.8.1 December 18, 2019
Python 3.7.6 December 18, 2019
Python 3.6.10 December 18, 2019
Python 3.5.9 November 2, 2019
Python 3.5.8 October 29, 2019
Python 2.7.17 October 19, 2019
Python 3.7.5 October 15, 2019
Python 3.8.0 October 14, 2019
Python 3.7.4 July 8, 2019
Python 3.6.9 July 2, 2019

Mixed Programming Paradigms

If you prefer to mix object-oriented programming with structured programming, Python would be ideal for you. And it is designed with a simple stylish form and grammar. So it can be read and understood easily.
Another thing is the code is written very clearly and briefly so even the inexperienced programmers will be able to review and change.
Though many programming languages use punctuation, Python uses English words. Therefore the files won’t be visually cluttered. Additionally, it is clearly indented to facilitate the easy scanning of a written code.

Extending Python

You can extend the functionality of Python with add on functions written in C or C+. And also it can be used as a command language with C.
A particular code can be run from within a Java application by allowing Java variables to be called from within Python and re-used.

Python; A well-established language

If you are going to create a Python application for the very first time, you don’t have to worry a bit. There is plenty of support available.
Even though Python has a reputation for being “slow” compared to other languages, it is used by some bigger sites on the internet. And there are plenty of web sources, tutorials, online classes and books to help you to get started.
Additionally, there are some things that you should consider if you are looking for Python hosting. You have to make sure to select the right plan. And you should look deeper into the details of the host’s Python offering before committing with them.

Python is ideal for Web apps

It is very flexible and it doesn’t have many restrictions. Python will be the best language for web development because you won’t need much time to write. Similarly, it is used in advanced, complex applications.
FYI various kinds of companies ranging from BitTorrent to YouTube have used or currently using Python. Similarly, it has a role in processing some of the most cutting-edge scientific data on Earth at NASA and CERN.

Python Features Functions
Clean syntax Easy to learn Python and write code
Cross-platform Runs on different server operating system
Used by big companies like YouTube, Google, NASA, CERN Language has a lot of support
Lots of frameworks available Easy to develop Python applications

Python frameworks

Django, TurboGears, web2py, Flask( actually a microframework), and Pyramid are examples for well written Python web frameworks. So that you will be able to code web applications using them. And don’t worry a bit about how to handle low-level details like protocols, sockets or process and thread management.
These particular frameworks need explicit support so you have to confirm that your host supports them or not.
And if you are a beginner to run Python on the web, it is better to check whether your host offers Python tech support for free. You may need help to set things up.

Some Hosts Don’t Offer Python!

As the first step, you must ensure to install Python on your chosen server and that will be able to handle any file you upload even before signing up. Mainly the hosts who offer shared hosting won’t offer that.
The reason behind that is inexperienced programmers may slow down the entire server by inefficient coding of the Python app. Thereby bring down all other customer sites in the process. Those kinds of programmers may cause problems, especially in a shared environment, because mod_python is not locked down tightly like in mod_php on Apache.
Another thing you have to do is to check for support for frameworks like Flask and Django. Confirm that the version of Python and mod_python the web host is running. As Python 2 and Python 3 are somewhat different you may need to find the version your host has installed now. Additionally, look further into the specifics as some hosts may limit your use of Python to selected situations.

Python Prerequisites

First things are first. You must check the following.

  1. Check the interpreter of your host is using and make sure it is compatible with your needs (Outdated interpreters are there)
  2. Ensure that you have shell access
  3. Check whether the Apache installation supports CGI and mod_wsgi, and other things that needed for your web framework

Check Python Modules

It will be good if you can check the host’s policy on Python modules. Some hosts will install whatever you need and do it within about 24 hours. Others will have policies about which modules they allow and will refuse to install anything that is unsafe.

Persistent Processes

Check whether your host will allow running persistent processes on their servers, especially if you are going for a cheaper plan like a shared hosting plan. FYI many hosts won’t allow those kinds of processes.
Moreover, some hosts may consider your apps more suitable for a VPS plan or dedicated server and complete your contract even you have a shared hosting plan offering unlimited resources.
If you are planning to run persistent processes we recommend you invest in a virtual private server (VPS) or get a dedicated server (an expensive option but it let you code as you wish).

Dedicated Servers require maintenance

Opting for a dedicated service will be a good choice if you don’t want to spend time fixing things on your server that you broke accidentally. Similarly, the virtual environment that is offered by a VPS plan will stop those troubles. Another way to avoid those troubles is to look for a managed plan that supports custom coding.

Special Python Plans

If you need to exclusively code in Python or base a large amount of coding around that, our recommendation is to personally email the host before sign up. Because they may have a special plan for Python.

How to check your Python version on Windows, Linux, and Mac

You may be needing your Python version for various reasons. Just follow these steps to know that in Windows, Linux, and Mac.

In Windows and Linux, open your command line, and open the terminal in Mac:

  • Linux: Hit “Ctrl-Alt-T or Ctrl-Alt-F2
  • Windows: Press “Win+R” > type “powershell” > Hit “Enter”
  • Mac: Go to “Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal”

Then enter the following text:

  • Windows/Linux: python –version
  • Mac: python -V

(Make sure to capitalize the “V” in Mac command line)

Then you will see the version as three digits separated by two dots in the middle. As in the below example:
Python 3.8.1

Via your Control Panel

How to check the Python version of your server’s machine? Let me answer. You can search for the term “python” if you are using cPanel or Plesk. And see what you get. Sadly, changing the Python version is not as simple as changing the PHP version.
Similarly, you can use the above Command-Line method if you are provided with root access.

Selecting a Host

A dedicated server will be the best option for Python. Actually it is quite expensive. And as the dedicated server comes without limitations you can take control of your Python install.
The second best would be Virtual Private Server (VPS), unlike a shared hosting plan. FYI most hosts don’t support Python on shared hosting. That is because it is too easy for inexperienced coders to bring down the server and running Python apps will be a resource drain.

You have to keep the following things in mind when selecting a web host for Python.

  • The chosen package should have Python support
  • Updated Python interpreter version
  • Check the installed modules and the host’s policy regarding new modules
  • Whether you can install Python packages (directories of Python modules by yourself)
  • Confirm whether the host allows you to run persistent processes
  • The availability of shell (SSH) access
  • Options with databases (usually Python scripts play well with a MySQL database)

Finally, if you are planning to spend a lot of time working with Python, go for a specialized host rather than a cheap one. Later you will realize that paying a little extra won’t be a problem for a supportive host that keeps their Python install up to date. Moreover, the host will let you run persistent processes and won’t penalize.

The Top Three WordPress Hosts

Host Plan Types Starting Price (Dedicated Servers)
A2 Hosting Shared, WordPress, VPS, Dedicated, Reseller $99.59/mo
LiquidWeb WordPress, Cloud, VPS, Dedicated $109.00/mo
InMotion Shared, WordPress, VPS, Dedicated $105.69/mo

Basically the facts we considered are the availability of full support for Python, multiple frameworks, use of modules/packages, and the availability of support (both tech and online documentation). Other hosts like SiteGround, Page, and GoDaddy offered support for Python. However, there were some limitations or there were some issues with the support.

Advantages & Disadvantages

  1. Supports HTTP and MIME
  2. You can code extensions in C or C++
  3. Can run from Java applications
  4. Have an easy connection to databases
  5. A lot of freely available packages to speed up development and cut costs

  1. Difficult to spot mistakes
  2. Slow
  3. Furthermore, learning Python alone is very difficult unless you are an experienced developer
  4. The support team will not cover the technical issues
  5. Only a few hosts will give Python support for shared hosting plans. Therefore, you have to go to expensive VPS or dedicated servers.

FastComet Review

FastComet was started in 2013. Its headquarters is located in San Francisco. Currently, they have more than 50,000 clients, more than 20,000 cloud notes, and 70 employees. The above-mentioned customer base is supported by their ten server locations in cities like Chicago, London, Amsterdam, Singapore, Mumbai, and Tokyo.  FastComet is a private hosting company which has only a few people in their organization. You can see them on their website.
So, as we did previously we signed up with FastComet. Then bought their cheapest plan in November 2017 and then set up a test WordPress site and kept monitoring the uptime figures and site speed in Pingdom.
Let’s take a detailed look at FastComet.

Advantages of using FastComet Hosting

Even though FastComet is a small, young company, they have made some wise decisions. And they were able to maintain those. Let’s dig into that.

1. Strong Uptime

On the home page of FastComet, you will see the following.

That graphic shows their services in comparison with the best-known brands in the industry. And will show you that they are the best.
When considering their uptime, it was 100% in the first few months. Then there were minute drops in later months. But the average was a good 99.97%!

Average uptimes during last 12 months:

  • January 2020 average uptime: 99.67%
  • December 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • November 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • October 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • September 2019 average uptime: 99.96%
  • August 2019 average uptime: 99.96%
  • July 2019 average uptime: 99.97%
  • June 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • May 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • April 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • March 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • February 2019 average uptime: 100%

2. Quick Customer Support

FastComet has taken their smallness as an advantage. For beginners, their team is around the block a time or two.
Their public cloud hosting side is started in 2013. Before 2013 the founding team was in the business for more than nine years. That team only worked on System Admin for business clients. Therefore scaling down won’t be a problem for them.
Up until today, they have run more than 40,000 live chat sessions and around 875,000 support tickets.
The next advantage of a small team is they can provide fast, friendly service that other companies cannot offer. Now let’s have a look at our experience with FastComet’s customer support.
Within a few minutes of visiting their site, Frank G. came to help us. And surprisingly he replied within seconds. He was very friendly and actually wanted to help us. So, in conclusion, FastComet’s customer support is not just a call center. They will help you in a really good way.

3. 45 Day Money Back Guarantee

Just imagine what will happen if you want to move your host because you are not happy with their services. You’ll have to think twice before if you have passed the period of the money-back policy, right?
But FastComet will give you 45 days to get your money back. So you will have more than a month to test them and make a decision. And this period is amongst the longest we have seen. That will assure their service in a way actually.

4. Free Daily Backups

It’s not a secret that we all have to face with site issues from time to time. However, with FastComet, you have some advantages. They are,

  • Daily Backups
  • Restoration of backups safely off-site for up to 30 days
  • one-click restoration of older versions

And they provide the above in all of their plans! Sounds perfect, right?

5. Free Cloudflare CDN

FastComet offers a dream Cloudflare content delivery network (CDN), even in their basic plans. CDNs will host your data across worldwide servers. So that the data loading will be instant in everywhere.
The majority of the cloud hosting companies don’t offer this. And charge some extra if they do so. But with FastComet, it is free.

6. Free Site Migrations

Another good news is that FastComet will help you to move your site which is in interwebs, over to their service for FREE!
Typically most of the hosts have two ways of performing site migration.

  1. They will send you a support doc. And you have to figure that out by yourself
  2. Or else they will use some “wizard” tool. That particular tool will move the information automatically. You don’t have to do a thing.

But with FastComet, it will be faster and easier. They have their own team of experts. That team will move the entire site for you within less than an hour. The best tIs you don’t have to upgrade your plan or to pay extra!

7. Free Domain for Life!

Sounds impressive, right? You’ll get to keep the domain name that you get when you sign up, FOREVER! And FastComet is the only hosting company that offers this among the other hosts that we have reviewed.
Others will sell you a domain name. Some won’t charge for the first year, and some may give it for a few bucks off.
But once the first year is passed, they will put you on a renewal rate. No free domain name after that and they will get the benefit.
That will prove to you the transparency in the pricing of FastComet.

Disadvantages of FastComet Hosting

They had great uptime, friendly customer support, and a lot of free stuff. But there are some cons too. Let’s have a look.

1. Speed

Amongst the companies we have reviewed, GoDaddy had a page loading speed of 554ms over the last two years and HostGator Cloud showed 399ms. Both are incredibly good values.
Unfortunately, FastComet had an average loading speed of 807ms. That is too slow.

Average load times during the past year:

Do we recommend FastComet?

FastComet has several mind-blowing points. But their single minus point is a really big one. That is the slow loading speed. Sadly, it is too slow to recommend them. We hope they will improve that in the future, so we will be able to recommend them without any doubt.

However, WP Engine uses a Secure Socket Layer Certificate. It protects all data transferred between the user and your website. Fast page loading speed

Speed is the most vital factor when selecting a web host service. Because if your website is slow down, then your bounce rate will increase and the SEO score will reduce. In WP Engine, it normally consists of 425ms of impressive page loading speed.

60-Day money-back guarantee

A financial guarantee is very important to users. Some web host companies give a 30-day money-back guarantee. But WP Engine gives a 60 day period money-back guarantee. Then you receive much time to experience their service and no risk of signing up.

Cons of using WP Engine hosting

For WordPress users only

As well as you will not need to build your site on a WordPress platform even WP Engine offers the best security options, pricing, and good customer service. Then the only option you have is that search a different web host service. But WP Engine offers services for WordPress only.

Can’t purchase a domain name

Many web host companies offer free domain names. For instance, the web host such as GreenGeeks provides a free domain name for the first year. However, you will not able to purchase a domain name with WP Engine and you have to go with a third-party service to obtain a domain name.

No email addresses

Many web host companies give email addresses free of charge. However, WP Engine does not provide or sell email addresses. Then you have to go for a third-party company to obtain this service. However, You require to have a branded email address and it represents confidence and professionalism with your customers. If you have this facility with your web host provider, it will be very simple.

The startup has limited phone support

WP Engine is consists of a good live chat support options. But it has some exceptions with their phone support. This phone support only available from WP Engine’s growth plan and up. Further, it means that if you use the startup plan of WP Engine, you will not able to call any of your issues for the phone support. Then it limits the support offering to people. Because some people do not use the chat systems and they need to call directly on the phone.

WP Engine is the most expensive web host service. The monthly cost start at $30 per month and the yearly subscription price is $25.

WP Engine pricing, hosting plans & quick facts

However, it is expensive a bit than other managed WordPress hosts. So WP can be recommended due to its excellent service unless the monthly cost is not a matter for you.

The starting price of the first payment plan of WebHostingBuzz is somewhat expensive compared with other web hosting services. But they will let you get two advantages from their pay plans.

The first thing they will offer you an annual discount of prepayment. Cons of Using WebHostingBuzz

WebHostingBuzz is one of the best-performed Web Hosting services. Their uptime and page loading times are excellent. Their free migration is also very favorable. And the best thing of all is their refund policy. But they also have some weaknesses in some fields. It’ll cause somewhat damage to their popularity. A summary of those failures are given below,

No new customer Discount

When we look at the prices of the cheapest web hosts in the current market, they may charge you one or two bucks for a month. Their prices are so cheap because they afford special prices for their new customers. So they can attract them for their services. But they will charge a higher rate cost at the renewal of the plan later on. This, in combination with per-payment for up to three years, can support you lock in with a new host at very low rates. Most of the web hosts we’ve reviewed follow this trend. But WebHostingBuzz is the one difference.

In WebhostingBuzz, long term discounts are unavailable. The cheapest pay plan is a personal charges $4.99 for a month. And it includes 20 GB SSD storage,1 GB memory, free SSL, unlimited bandwidth, and 100% CPU speed. Although most of these features are fair for this price, the memory is not sufficient

If you need more advanced features than this, you have to choose the Developer plan and Business plan cost $9.99 and $24.99 respectively. As mentioned earlier, you have the ability to per-pay for a year and bring down the cost a little bit. And the WebHostingBuzz renewal price of the plan is not getting increased.

Unfortunately, if you choose WebHostingBuzz you lose the opportunity to get a new customer discount and save a bunch in three years or more when you get with many other hosts.

Limited Support

Many of the web hosts are famous to give 24/7 live chat support in order to make it easier for their customers to enjoy their service. They will give you a quick response to your queries. But WebHostingBuzz again breakdown that trend too. They only offer the knowledge base and support tickets for their clients. WebHostingBuzz does not provide any phone or live chat support.

Odd Termination Clause

You get a sign in to a new host with the excitement of getting a new that moment, the idea of what may happen for your journey if an issue or problem suddenly came up may not come into your mind.

Usually, we look at the delicate print that is buried deep within the host. This where you can find something that will prevent you from getting your money back or a service that you normally think will work.

WebHostingBuzz has its own trend on this too. It is a strange termination clause that shows how plans can be renewed and canceled to prevent automatically charging for the next term. You’ll get a notification statement from them.

Here are the 2 key points of their statement,

  1. You are unable to tell them you need to cancel before passing 10 days from your billing date. (You can’t cancel it earlier)
  2. And also you are unable to cancel it later than 3 days earlier than the billing date.

This whole thing totally sounds odd. Within very little time you have to let them know that you need to cancel. If not they’ll say ”no” to you. As we see, it’s an attempt of them not to accept most of the cancellations without even trying to get you to pay the price of renewal for the next term.

WebHostingPad Review

WebHostingPad is a hosting company that is popular because of its cheaper plans. They are like under two bucks cheap.
It is first established in 2005 by a small group of individuals. And showed stable growth during the past decade at low prices.
So, in order to provide you an honest review, we purchased a WebHostingPad “Power Plan” in June 2015 and set up a basic WordPress website.
Then started to monitor their performance during the past few months including uptime and speed. Just read the full review to get more details.

Advantages of using WebHostingPad

Apart from the low price, WebHostingPad has several plus points.

1. Decent Customer Support

The overall personal experience with WebHostingPad was quite good actually. One pf their support staff connected with us instantly. He was able to get back to us with the answers within about a minute after every question. Though that was not the best experience we have had, it was pretty good.
However, the customer reviews were mixed ones similar to most of the hosts. The following are some reviews posted by some customers.

  1. “My email to an address at continues to bounce. I’ve filled out two support tickets, but no response. Why can’t I get this resolved?”
  2. “Hi, can you please let us know what time the live technical support works please – as we tried it when the system said it was online – but then it decided you were offline after all – and told us to send an email message which has not yet been answered. Many thanks”
  3. “Hi, I’ve had issues with my website going down but your support team tells me that it’s fine and there are no problems. I’m really not getting the help I think I should be and I’m definitely an unhappy customer. Can someone help me please and show me that you do care about your customers?”
  4. “My website is down and I cannot reach anyone in customer service. On the phone, it says to leave a message but then says “sorry but the user mailbox is full”. It also suggests using live chat but when I do that it disconnects me and says no online agents are available. So, I’ve emailed a ticket. I’m just wondering what’s going on and I’d like to resolve this promptly. Thanks.”

2. Amazingly Cheap

As I have mentioned earlier, WebHostingPad plans are unbelievably cheap. They are the cheapest plan we know apart from the Essential Plan in iPage.

Now you might be thinking that why so cheap? Yes. There are some reasons. You will see them in the disadvantages section. But WebHostingPad will be a good choice if you only consider the price.

3. Strong Money Back Guarantee

If you’re not satisfied with WebHostingPad’s services they have a solid 30-day money-back guarantee. But the refund policy only covers hosting purchases. It doesn’t applicable to renewals, addons, site transfer fees, service charges, and domain name registrations or renewals including free domain registrations. Because free domain registrations are a part of WebHostingPad’s free domain coupon offer.

4. Security Enhancements

As you already know most of the available cheapest options are lack in extra stuff like security options.
Thankfully WebHostingPad is not so. They are offering an automated malware scanner and malware quarantine for WordPress hosting plans.

Disadvantages of using WebHostingPad

Often a product or a service becomes cheap for a reason. That is the same with WebHostingPad also.
Let’s have a look at the cons list.

1. Very low uptime (99.23%)

Uptime is one of the Essential facts you have to consider when looking for a web hosting company. Because a website will be good only it is up to its visitors and potential customers.
Even though WebHostingPad claims of 99% uptime, they have failed to achieve that. They have only managed to deliver an uptime of 99.23% during the last two years, which is below average.

Average uptimes during last year:

  • January 2020 average uptime: 99.89%
  • December 2019 average uptime: 99.85%
  • November 2019 average uptime: 99.78%
  • October 2019 average uptime: 99.87%
  • September 2019 average uptime: 99.85%
  • August 2019 average uptime: 99.81%
  • July 2019 average uptime: 99.83%
  • June 2019 average uptime: 99.77%
  • May 2019 average uptime: 99.81%
  • April 2019 average uptime: 99.89%
  • March 2019 average uptime: 99.97%
  • February 2019 average uptime: 99.92%

2. Slow page loading time

Page Loading time is another key factor to maintain the traffic of your website. And your web host has to make sure to deliver that accordingly.
Not only a slow page loading time annoys people it will also affect search engine rankings and conversions even.
WebHostingPad has failed in this also. Their average page loading time was 1,021ms during the past two years. That is more than one second! Not close to competing with today’s internet world.

Average load times during last year:

3. Strings Attached “Free” Domain Registration

Just like the other web hosts, WebHostingPad offers a free domain name when you are signing up. But there are some alarm bells ringing.
In order to get the free domain name offer, you have to sign up with the FREE DOMAIN coupon, any other coupon will invalidate this. Then you have to pay $14.95 per year to renew the domain name. For your information, you can buy a domain name for less than $10 during these days on other websites.
So, its time to think twice, right?

4. Very Limited Website Transfers

WebHostingPad will offer a free single site migration at the beginning.
But it will only be free if the size is less than 2GB. And won’t include email addresses, FTP Accounts, subdomains or add on domains. So you will have to recreate them within their control panel.

5. Very limited Backup Option

WebHostingPad also provides free backups for new customers similar to most of the hosts. It sounds like an amazing deal, right?
But there is something hidden in WebHostingPad’s Terms of Service:

“WebHostingPad, at our sole discretion, will take weekly backups of customer’s accounts, up to and including 1GB of website files only. This backup does not include email addresses, email accounts, databases, or anything other than website files. Any account that is larger than 1GB will not be included in any automated backup service provided by WebHostingPad. In the event that a customer requires a backup to be restored, WebHostingPad may charge a one-time backup restoration service fee of $39.95.”

In simple terms, they have some restrictions on backups.

  • They are only taking backups at their “solid discretion” (we don’t know what that means)
Backup should be less than 1GB.
  • The backup doesn’t include emails and databases, only include website files.
  • They might charge a restoration fee of $39.95 to restore the backup. (It’s not free!)
  • You can’t manually backup via cPanel. To enable the option you have to pay again.

So, this is not a good backup offer at all. And even they are limiting your ability to manually backup the site.

  • Power Plan Plus
    Starts from $4.99/month
    Unlimited storage, bandwidth
    Supports unlimited websites
    A free SSL certificate
    Advanced Spam Filter
    SSH access

Additionally, they have WordPress sharing options. But according to our experience, they are not better than regular shared hosting though they come with unlimited storage and unlimited email accounts.

  • Free Domain
  • Ease of signup
    Yes, only one page
  • Payment Methods
Credit card, PayPal, Alipay, Bitcoin, Check, Money Order, Western Union

If you reach the limit and not responding to their notifications they will automatically bill you $10/month per additional 150,000 files. You can’t use more than 10% CPU and memory, your sessions should be no longer than 10 minutes and only 300 emails are allowed per hour or 3,000 mails per day.
  • Upsells
    A lot
  • Account Activation
  • Control Panel and Dashboard Experience
  • Installation of Apps and CMSs (WordPress, Joomla, etc)
    Simple and Quick with Softaculous

Do We Recommend WebHostingPad?

No, never.
They have failed in the main jobs that a web host should do. Only customer support is decent. And the limitations are a complete mess.
There are better alternatives like iPage and Hostinger if you are concerned about the pricing. (Both are under $2)

InMotion Hosting Review

Today I am here with another web hosting review. It’s about InMotion hosting. As their advertisements are everywhere you may know them by now. And also InMotion hosting is a big hosting company.

Started in 2011 and owns two data centers in Los Angeles and Virginia Beach. Now holds a customer base of more than 300,000 domains even. Additionally, they own Web Hosting Hub; more focused on bloggers and beginners.
Apart from being one of the older and more established names in the hosting industry, they always boast grandiose claims.
However, according to our experience, the biggest companies are the worst offenders. They keep neglecting the things that helped them to be successful while focusing on unnecessary ad campaigns.
So, we wanted to present to you the truth. We first bought an InMotion “Launch Plan” in June 2015 and set up a basic WordPress test website. You can see the statistics like uptime & speed by clicking here.
The below review mainly based on data, like uptime, load time (speed), and customer support experience.

Advantages of InMotion Hosting

The best features of InMotion Hosting are uptime, speed, and support. And there are some additional features to improve the user experience.
Let’s dig into them.

1. An uptime of 99.95% (Which is above average!)

The average uptime of InMotion Hosting was 99.95% based on our monitoring during the past two years. So, they are among the top 20!

Average uptimes of last year:

  • January 2020 average uptime: 100%
  • December 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • November 2019 average uptime: 99.75%
  • October 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • September 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • August 2019 average uptime: 99.74%
  • July 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • June 2019 average uptime: 99.95%
  • May 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • April 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • March 2019 average uptime: 99.98%
  • February 2019 average uptime: 99.98%

2. Customer Support 10/10

The company itself claims that they are a leader in web hosting customer support.
But, we are not ready to accept this at it is. Even from the beginning web hosting customer services have been unreliable and inefficient.
But, we were quite surprised while reviewing InMotion Hosting. We investigated the quality of their support team and conducted a detailed “Background Check” with the help of real customers as well. So that way we will be able to ensure that our interaction is not anomalous.

And we are pleased to report that the entire investigation completed with all positive results. We asked three questions from the customer service representative to assess their product knowledge and general efficacy.
The results were marvelous!
We just waited for about two minutes after submitting our ticket. A live agent came and he answered all our questions in a very professional way. Gladly the overall experience was surprisingly outstanding.

3. 90 Days Money Back Guarantee

Most of the money-back guarantees in industries last for about 30 days. But in InMotion, they offer a money-back guarantee up to 90 days to business, VPS, and reseller hosting plans. That itself shows us the confidence they have about their service.
(There is only a 30-day money-back guarantee for shared hosting options)

4. Integrations & Apps (including WordPress)

InMotion also claims that they are a pioneer in supporting Open Source projects.
Again that can be justified with a portfolio of more than 310 applications! You will be able to find everything from popular content management systems such as WordPress and Drupal to shopping carts or eCommerce systems such as Prestashop and Magento.

5. Premium Sucuri Plugin for WordPress users

Usually, the WordPress of InMotion Hosting has the Sucuri security plugin that scans your sites regularly for exploits and security risks apart from ongoing remote backups, anti-spam, and anti-virus protection.

6. Free Site Migration

Similarly, like the other web hosts, InMotion Hosting has offered to migrate your site for free from your current hosting.
But there is a bad thing too. They don’t assure zero downtime while the migration. But other hosts guarantee that always.

7. Great for E-commerce support

From the two web hosts who have active partnerships with Prestashop and other leading eCommerce services, InMotion Hosting is a one. (Another one is SiteGround)
They give you easy integrations with payment processors to make a better eCommerce experience. And thereby helping you even.

8. Google Apps Integration

InMotion also offers a simple three-step wizard to connect with Google apps.
Other web hosts make you pay for their subpar email clients. And even set up a Google App integration in order to use your new domain with Gmail, Google Docs, Drive, and much more. It will be really annoying if you are a newbie.

9. Super Secure Smartwall Threat Defense System (TDS)

Fortunately, InMotion Hosting doesn’t charge you to ensure the security of your private information. In collaboration with Corero Network Security, InMotion offers you a unique security measure named the Smartwall Threat Defense System or TDS. It is among the family of DDoS protection tools that are able to detect, mitigate, and eliminate DDoS attacks in real-time. And also they offer the following,

  • The Smartwall; a slimline DDoS protection tool that delivers 10Gbps full-duplex or 20Gbps unidirectional performance in a 1/4 wide, 1 RU form factor.
  • 1 RU gives up to 80Gbps and 4RU gives up to,320Gbps.

If you are not into technical jargon, I’ll explain this in a simple way. The Threat Defence System which is launched by InMotion Hosting and Corero Network Security is one of the best systems.

So you don’t have yo worry about the security of your website anymore.

Disadvantages of InMotion Hosting

Up to now, InMotion is perfect, right? But there are some issues with uptime and customer service. Let’s have a look at them.

1. Low advertised pricing ONLY for two-year signup

According to their advertisements, InMotion has a pretty good deal. However, you will be eligible for this advertised rate only if you are signing up for two years. Otherwise, the cost is a bit higher.
This is a quite common trick used by most of the hosting companies. They are kind of misleading you.

2. Slow Server Speed

Fast loading times are crucial for a website. It’s also a factor that is considered in Google algorithms.
The speed determines whether to keep or chase away your traffic. A slow page loading speed will actually half your traffic.
Sadly, the average page loading time of InMotion is only 824ms. Not adequate actually.

Average load times during last year:

3. Delayed Verification Process

For security purposes, InMotion requires phone verification for all new customers. So you won’t get instant account access following sign up. Mainly if you are outside the US. They will be asking for a picture of your ID card in rare cases.
According to our opinion, this lengthy verification process may discourage many potential customers, mainly international customers.

4. Some Plan Limitations

InMotion Hosting doesn’t offer free automated data backups. They will charge you $2 per month for that. And worse, you have to pay $1 per month for each additional 10 GB after the first 10 GB.

Do we recommend InMotion?

Yes and No.
Basically their uptime and support were adequate. However, their performance started to drop during the last few months. Now they are at the 22nd place. But you can try them if you are curious or so.

Justhost Review

Justhost was started in 2002 in Glendale, California by Chris Philips. And later acquired by EIG. This will automatically remind you of the other EIG brands like iPage and HostGator.

So to start up with the review process we set up a WordPress website after purchasing the Justhost “Shared Plan” in June 2015. And we kept monitoring them (mainly the uptime and speed) since then to come up with an honest review. You will see the results below.

Advantages of Justhost Hosting

Let’s have a look at the plus points of Justhost.

1. Instant Provision of Servers

When you are signing up with a host, some may require a lengthy sign-up process. They will ask you to verify via phone likewise.
But with Justhost, you don’t have to go through that length, boring process. They will offer instant server provisioning if you are going with their premium, VPS, or dedicated services.

2. 30 Day Money Back Guarantee and some Add Ons

As same as most of the hosts, Justhost also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. So you will be able to make a decision without any problem if you are not satisfied with their services.
But there is an important thing to keep in mind. That is the refund policy only applies to the hosting service. Not for other products like domains.
As they have included free domains, Justhost will deduct a domain fee of $15.99 Which is non-refundable.
If you are moving to another web host, you can transfer the domain name. But you won’t be able to transfer newly registered domains to another host within 60 days of activation.Justhost Review When talking about the extras Justhost easily integrates with popular platforms like Google Apps. Moreover, they will offer free Google and Bing advertising credits. This will be very beneficial if you are starting the generation of online sales.

3. Free Domain Name

Justhost will give you a free domain name when you sign up irrespective of the hosting plan you select!

4. Free Script Library

You will be eligible to get a free full script library with every Justhost account. You can directly install the simple scripts to your subdomain automatically. WordPress, osCommerce, phpBB, and Joomla are the available scripts.

5. Good Security

There are few things you must consider before committing with a web host. Amongst those things, security will be at the top.
Fortunately, Justhost has various forms of site security like Secure Socket Layer (SSL), secure shell (SSH), solid-state drive (SSD), and many more.
As Justhost also offers SiteLock, that will include,

  • Daily 360-degree vulnerability scanning
  • Dashboard Reports
  • Alerts & Email Notifications
  • A dynamic verifiable security badge
  • Security Maintenance
  • 360-degree scanning (defacement, drive-by downloads, database vulnerabilities and application vulnerabilities)

Another important thing is you will be receiving instant alerts and reports to your email address and Dashboard if a threat is detected. So you will be able to take necessary actions to protect your site.
Justhost even claims that you can get help from their team if you are not familiar with cleaning malicious files by yourself.

6. Improved Page Loading Times

According to the page loading times during the last two years, Justhost has shown a loading time of 731ms. That is a good value when compared with industry standards.
As the page loading time is one of the reasons that determine the traffic of your site, it will be a very good thing if Justhost is able to keep up the good speed.

Average Load Times during last year:Justhost Review

Disadvantages of Justhost Hosting

Up to now the pros of Justhost Hosting are 30-day money-back guarantee, above-average page loading speed, good security, and so on.
Now let’s have a look at the cons of Justhost.

1. Inadequate Customer Support

The overall experience was quite okay. Justhost support was able to connect with us within 3 minutes. And they provided the replies very quickly.
But the background check got some mixed reviews.Justhost Review It showed that customer support maybe got worse since 2015. On Twitter also there were some complaints which were posted by several customers.
In conclusion, we have to warn you if you are looking for 24/7 customer support, please think twice before committing with Justhost.

2. Below Average Uptime

During the last two years, Justhost had an uptime of 99.88% which is below the industry standard. But they have shown pretty good results and even managed to keep the uptime 100% from December 2018 to March 2019. However, that didn’t help to boost up the average uptime.

Average Uptimes during last year:

  • January 2020 average uptime: 99.46%
  • December 2019 average uptime: 99.87%
  • November 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • October 2019 average uptime: 98.20%
  • September 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • August 2019 average uptime: 99.97%
  • July 2019 average uptime: 99.98%
  • June 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • May 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • April 2019 average uptime: 99.98%
  • March 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • February 2019 average uptime: 100%

3. Cheapest Price only with a three year, upfront payment

If you look from the outside the starting monthly rate of Justhost will look like a pretty good deal. Because that is only $3.95 per month. But you have to pay for three years to get that low rate. Or else you will have to pay $5.95 per month for shorter plans.
The worse thing is when your plan ends your pricing options will rise again.

4. Weekly backups are not guaranteed

It’s a good thing that Justhost offers weekly backups. But they don’t guarantee them. So you will be needing a plan B in case if they don’t backup. That’s pretty annoying right.

5. The Quantity of Upsells was too high

Some hosts have upsells. But they are not bothersome. Sadly, the amount of upsells with Justhost is very frustrating.
Even though most of the customers have complained they are still practicing that.

Justhost Pricing, Hosting Plans & Quick Facts

  • Upsells A lot
  • Account Activation Instant
  • Control Panel and Dashboard Experience Heavily Customized cPanel
  • Installation of Apps and CMSs (WordPress, Joomla, etc) One-click installation

Do we recommend Justhost?

Very difficult to say.
Though Justhost has a good page loading speed, it has failed in uptime and customer support. The customer support was at average levels and the uptimes are below average.

HostPapa Review

Currently, HostPapa is hosting more than 500,000 websites on its data centers in the USA and Canada. That’s very impressive because they only started in 2006 by Jamie Opalchuck.
The secret behind their success might be the variety of customer service options. They offer phone support in many languages including English, French, Spanish, and German to international and domestic clients. To check them out we bought the HostPapa ‘Starter Plan’ in June 2015. First, we set up a simple WordPress website. You can see their statistics by yourself here. If you need more information, click History.
So, let’s dig into the review.

Advantages of HostPapa Hosting

At the very beginning, we were impressed with their great uptime and the variety of customer support options they offer. So, let’s have a look at the pros of HostPapa hosting.

1. Good Uptime

We are delighted to tell you that their uptime has been good since the first day. The 24-month average value was 99.95%.

Average Uptimes during last year:

  • January 2020 average uptime: 99.99%
  • December 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • November 2019 average uptime: 99.88%
  • October 2019 average uptime: 99.70%
  • September 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • August 2019 average uptime: 99.94%
  • July 2019 average uptime: 99.95%
  • June 2019 average uptime: 99.98%
  • May 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • April 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • March 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • February 2019 average uptime: 99.63%

As the great uptime, their page loading speeds are admirable. HostPapa delivered an average page loading time of 705ms during the last two year period. That is well above the industry average.

Average Load Times during last year:

3. Various Support Options

HostPapa gives you a variety of support options to choose from. They have a huge library of self-help videos and provide 24/7 support via phone, mail, email, and even fax!
Moreover, HostPapa provides phone support in 18 countries and provides support in different languages like English, French, German, and Spanish. HostPapa is amongst the few hosts that are providing support in different languages.
And the best thing is they have ‘Papa Squad Experts’. That is a one on one session, with guided walkthroughs using video or telephone conference.
Our experience with the customer service representative was pretty good actually. we were able to get a response within less than a minute. And the answers were provided within about two minutes.

4. Proactive Security Features

All the hosting plans in HostPapa come with Panda Cloud antispam protection enabled along with server firewall, monitoring, and intrusion detection. As more than 37,000 websites get hacked daily these proactive measures will be very reassuring.
Considering HostPapa’s Business Pro plan, it comes with added features like domain privacy protection, a free SSL certificate, a dedicated IP address, and even automated website backups.

5. 30 Day Money Back Guarantee and Site Migration

For most of the hosting plans, HostPapa offers an industry-standard 30-day money-back guarantee.
And also they will help you to transfer your existing website from another host while giving a free domain name also.

6. Good Value for the price

The basic pricing starts from $3.95 for the initial three years. If you are signing up for a time period of fewer than three years there will be some extra charges. And the pricing will be low for new customers even though the renewal price will increase to $7.99/month on the same starter plan. Quite similar to most of the hosts, right?
But there are some good things. The first one is that they offer a lot for this initial pricing including two websites, free domain registration, 100 GB SSD storage, and Unmetered bandwidth.
The second thing is you will get the “Essential Features”. They are a free website migration, Cloudflare CDN, SSL certificate, and access to their 400+ apps and website builder.
So in conclusion, this is a good deal!

Disadvantages of HostPapa Hosting

Even though our experience is good, our background check revealed that other customers do not experience the same results. And there are some issues with hidden fees also.
Have a look.

1. Poor Customer Experience with Support

As I have mentioned previously, our experience with the customer support was good. But the experience of the other customers was below average.

2. Additional Fees

In HostPapa, if you request a refund during The initial 30 day period, they will charge you a $29.95 setup fee upon cancellation. So basically the free money-back guarantee is not free and the website set up either.

Do we recommend HostPapa?

No, we don’t.
Even though we had a good experience, we didn’t find enough evidence to support ours. And the hidden fees are bothersome.

A Small Orange Review

A Small Orange was established in 2012 by Endurance International Group (EIG). EIG is the same group of companies that is behind BlueHost and HostGator. Even though A Small Orange is not notable as those brands, it has the same direct approach as them.
So, for the review process, we set up a basic WordPress website on A Small Orange’s cheapest hosting plan; ‘Tiny Plan’. We purchased that in June 2015 and kept monitoring their uptime and speed stats during the past two years. Let’s take a look at how they compete with their own sibling brands.

Advantages of A Small Orange Hosting

A Small Orange originally launched again in 2003 by Tim Dorr. Now they have two server locations in Dallas, Texas, and Dearborn, Michigan. Unlike its cute name and small status, they are doing a great job in the Industry.

1. Strong Uptime (99.98%)

How would you feel if your site keeps knocked offline by an underperforming web host? Even though your site is a well-performing one? Sounds terrible right. What will happen if the uptime statistics are poor in your host?
Thankfully, A Small Orange won’t let you suffer like that.
According to our analysis, they have shown an uptime of 99.98% during a two year period. That shows they are performing the same as the notable companies in the industry.

Average uptimes during last year:

  • January 2020 average uptime: 100%
  • December 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • November 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • October 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • September 2019 average uptime: 99.94%
  • August 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • July 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • June 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • May 2019 average uptime: 99.95%
  • April 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • March 2019 average uptime: 99.97%
  • February 2019 average uptime: 100%

2. Quick Load Time (645 ms)

As I have already mentioned in the previous reviews, page loading speed is an important factor for a site’s performance.
According to studies a one-second delay in site loading time can result in a 7% conversion loss. Around 40% of your site traffic will leave you if the speed drops below three seconds.
But that won’t be a problem with A Small Orange. They were able to deliver an average page speed of 645ms which is far better than the industry average.

3. Friendly and Helpful Customer Support

All sites require great and efficient customer support. Considering the customer support of A Small Orange, they were able to get back to us quickly with detailed and well-informed responses.
We had a wonderful experience with them. The best thing is they didn’t send us links to solve the issue. They took the time to speak with us to give a better solution.

4. Honest, Transparent Business Approach

I used the word “honest” because A Small Orange doesn’t have a hidden agenda or language to deceive you. They inform you in simple English. You will know what will you get for the value of your money.
Moreover, they provide all the premium features for every plan except for the Tiny Plan. These features include unlimited email, 24/7 U.S. based support, SSD servers, and unlimited domain names.

5. 90 Day Money Back Guarantee

Money-Back Guarantees are very helpful because you don’t have to stay with a particular host if you are not satisfied with their service.
Most of the hosts will give you a 30-day money-back guarantee. But A Small Orange gives you a 90-day money-back guarantee. That specifically shows how confident are they about their service.
Another hosting company that will offer a 90-day money-back guarantee is InMotion Hosting.
There is a thing you have to keep in mind. That is the refund policy of A Small Orange is only applicable for some payment methods. As their Terms of Service mentions, “you won’t be able to get a refund if you pay with a bank wire transfer, Western Union payment, check, or money order.”

So, please make sure to pay with a debit card, credit card, or PayPal. Then you will be eligible for refunds.

Disadvantages of A Small Orange Hosting

Up to now, A Small Orange managed to impress us. But there are some other things you must know before committing with them.

1. Risks of exceeding their limits

If you exceed the limits of your plan, They might suspend your account immediately. Actually this is mentioned in A Small Orange’s Terms of service. Though most of their plans give you an adequate amount of bandwidth, just be alert about this possibility. A Small Orange claims that a customer is required to use as few server resources as possible to allow good performance for all their customers.
As CPU and memory are shared resources, A Small Orange might suspend or terminate your account for using many resources, saying that it is abusive’.
The following are the limits on shared and reseller packages according to the Terms of Service.

  • 50 Running Processes
  • 15 Minute Max Execution Time
  • 100,000 Total Inodes
  • 10% CPU Usage
  • 5% Memory Usage (or 512 MB)
  • 500 outgoing email messages within each hour (they will discard all excess messages without delivering them)

The limit is the same as bandwidth usage. Based on your hosting package they allow you a monthly bandwidth. If you exceed the allocated bandwidth for a month, they can suspend your account till,

  • More bandwidth is allocated,
  • You buy more bandwidth for an extra fee,
  • You upgrade to a package that has more total bandwidth.

And A Small Orange can charge you an additional fee regardless of how you are going to reactivate your account.

2. No Phone Support

Even though they had impressive customer support, they don’t have phone support. You have to rely on their in-depth knowledge database, live website chat, and email.
This will be a con or pro depending on your preference actually.

3. Poor Reputation Management

A Small Orange was able to pass all the primary tests including uptime, speed, and customer support. But the online reviews are not so shiny.
A number of Twitter users are speaking negatively about their services. One user has said that A Small Orange won’t transfer their domain to a new web host in 2016. In 2017 also the conversation stayed at the negative side. But we are not with them. And the company attempted to clarify the issues.
