One.com is founded by Jacob Jensen in 2012. It is a Denmark based company. From that day onwards, they have improved. Now One.com is amongst the biggest hosting companies in Europe. It has around 1,500,000 customers in 149 countries around the world. And even has a similar number of employees.
Quite good, right! Even though they have those kinds of features, they are still not known virtually. Especially when compared with the hosts like HostGator, BlueHost, and GoDaddy.
What might be the reason for the quietness of One.com? Why we haven’t heard about them much? Let’s decided to check that out.
In 2017 we bought their cheapest plan. Then set up a WordPress website and kept monitoring their performance. You can see the detailed Pingdom stats here.
So, let’s take a look at how One.com performed throughout the testing process.
Advantages of One.com Hosting
Among the advantages, the most impressive ones were their load times, customer-friendly additional features on each plan, and the competitive prices they have.
You will be seeing a detailed account of the advantages of One.com below.
1. Above Average Load Times
After analyzing website speed across millions of sites and correlating the results to the visitor behavior, Google has updated its mobile page speed benchmarks for companies. During that analysis, they have found that “53% of mobile site visits leave a page that takes longer than three seconds to load”.
Just think about it. You will realize three seconds will be a very long time when you are browsing on your phone. But there is a worse thing.
According to Google, the average page loading times were around 15 seconds! If you lose around 50% of the traffic when your pages won’t load within three seconds, what will happen if the loading time extends for five times? You will lose all of them.
Thankfully, One.com was able to offer a stable average page loading time of 495ms during the past year.

2. Adequate Customer Support
As I have mentioned before, One.com is a European company that operates in about 150 countries around the world. When talking about the truth, that will lead to messy customer support. Because they have to tackle with different languages and time zones.
However, they are doing a great job. One.com has an extensive knowledge base to give answers to frequently asked questions. Furthermore, they offer support phone numbers.
Additionally, their email support promises to reply within 24 hours. And they also have a live chat that is available in different languages during local business hours or 24/7/365 for English.
While we are testing their 24/7 with a simple question, Kathy connected with us instantly.
3. Unlimited Email Accounts
A majority of hosts trick you into paying hidden fees in a number of ways.
- They offer a low rate on the website, only if you prepay a minimum of three years in advance.
- Offers a low rate on the website, which doubles or triples after the initial year.
- They will throw free extras like a domain name for the first year, only to cost you in years two, three, etc
And the worst trick will be forcing customers to pay a lot for email accounts. Usually, email addresses are free with a domain name purchase. You may need to pay if you want to upgrade to Google’s G-Suite or something like that. Generally, you don’t have to pay if you know your way around MX records.
Gladly, One.com doesn’t trick you and they give you free email accounts even in their cheapest plan.
4. SSL Certificate
Several years ago, you didn’t need an SSL certificate. Only e-commerce sites and sites that process credit card transactions used them. The SSL certificate will create a secure connection between a visitor’s browser and your server. So the personal data won’t be leaked.
As the number of hacks, data leaks and breaches continue to increase during the past few years, Google added a measure to its Chrome browser to warn customers when a website doesn’t offer a secure connection. So, you will see the following notification when you are entering an SSL less site. Fortunately, One.com offers a free SSL Certificate on all basic plans without any additional fees or hidden fees.
5. Website Builder and WordPress
Nowadays we have website builders. They let everyone a user-friendly DIY way to get a site up and running in no time. You can customize your website all by yourself by dragging and dropping various site elements, creating the look likewise. For that, you have to recognize some popular options like Wix or Squarespace. But if you are selecting them you have to use their own hosting. So you won’t be able to shop around and select a host which is compatible with your needs. And you won’t be able to move into a custom WordPress site in the future.
Thankfully, One.com gives you its own website builder with each plan. They have included popular open-source apps like WordPress as well. Therefore you can start from the bottom and create your site with a website builder and then expand into something big in the future.
Disadvantages of One.com Hosting
Apart from the plus points, we have taken into account. One.com has only a single minus point. That is their pathetic uptime.
Let’s take a deep look at it.
1. Pathetic uptime 99.77%
You may be thinking that this value is not bad. Let me tell you why it is bad. 99.77% uptime means two days of downtime! During our testing period, they had 483 outages within a year.
If you are using the site for business, I am pretty sure that you won’t be happy about their uptime.

Do we recommend One.com?
No, we don’t.
Even though they had pretty good page speeds, support options, and some extras like unlimited email accounts, the SSL certificate, and a website builder, their uptime is really bad. Even Our test site was down a full business day in March 2018!
Sadly we cannot recommend One.com.
