GoDaddy Review

5252GoDaddy provides you a very stable hosting with an uptime of 99.97% and an average speed of 554ms. You can get up to 100 GB storage and unmetered bandwidth by their base plan. Similarly, it connects with more than 125 services with a one-click installation.

But sadly, they will cost you a lot starting from migrations ($99 per site) to backups,($99 per month), SSL Certificates ($63.99 per year).

Another negative point is that their customer support is lagging behind and very uncooperative. They have a very confusing money-back guarantee also. So, today we are going to present you with an in-depth analysis of GoDaddy hosting.

Advantages of GoDaddy Hosting

During the past two years, GoDaddy provided a stable uptime and page speed, integrating with more than 125 popular applications.
Moreover, their Economy plan is greatly beneficial and its price is also bearable. So, let’s look into the main advantages one by one.

Excellent uptime of 99.97%

Even though GoDaddy is famous for domain names, they are great in delivering very stable uptime on their shared plans also.
Apart from a small drop during October 2019, they were managed to maintain an uptime of 99.99% during the last two years. So the average uptime is 99.97% and its above average.
That indicates the average downtime is just 13 minutes.

Average Uptime during the last year:

  • January 2020 average uptime: 99.99%
  • December 2019 average uptime: 99.96%
  • November 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • October 2019 average uptime: 99.84%
  • September 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • August 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • July 2019 average uptime: 99.95%
  • June 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • May 2019 average uptime: 100%
  • April 2019 average uptime: 99.99%
  • March 2019 average uptime: 99.97%
  • February 2019 average uptime: 99.99%

Super Page Loading Speed

Earlier we didn’t associate inexpensive web hosts such as GoDaddy with good performance. But GoDaddy was able to pass our test posting an average page loading time of only 554ms during past two years.

You might think that page loading time are not that important. But according to studies they can force visitors to leave your site faster, damage your search engine rankings and even have a negative impact on your conversion rates.

As you cannot control the speed of your website, the speed of your web host is also very crucial. I’ll explain that a bit more.

If your site is full of images, you will be able to compress them or use a Content Delivery Network (CDN) to make your site faster. You will be able to control the speed directly.

What to do if your host is consistently slow? There is nothing you can do. But GoDaddy hosting won’t let you worry about loading speeds.
During the past two years, their average speed was 224ms and it was stable.

Average load times

GoDaddy average load times:

More than 125 one-click Install Applications

If you are looking for an uncomplicated drag and drop experience, GoDaddy has its own website builder.

Similarly, GoDaddy has one-click installations with more than 125 popular applications if you are looking for something more advanced. Those applications include management systems such as WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal. GoDaddy also has developer-friendly tools like cPanel, MySQL, CloudLinux, Python, and several versions of PHP. So they will be able to fulfill your needs, even if you are a beginner or a webmaster.

Basic inexpensive plan

Even though previously they had an expensive plan with limited features, now they are offering the Economy plan just for $2.99/month. You won’t need a discount code either.

And the most important thing is you will get value for that price. They will give you everything for a single website including up to 100GB storage and unmetered bandwidth.

Now they even give a free domain name and business email for the first year.
Other hosts like SiteGround performed well but they only give 10GB of storage on the cheapest plan.

Conversely, GoDaddy is giving you ten times that of the same price. Superficially it seems like a good deal. But actually that is not that good. That is because…

Good Customer Support

GoDaddy provides 24/7 customer support with a knowledge base. And also via phone support and live chat.

In the beginning, the live chatbot let you select the department for your issue. After selecting you will be connected to the support agent, which took around a minute or so for us. We asked some questions regarding their plans and services. They provided direct responses with good clarity. And took around 2 minutes to answer. We must say that GoDaddy has improved a lot during the past year with their live chat support. Previously it was very unreliable and very uncooperative. We are pleased to see such an improvement.

Disadvantages of GoDaddy

Apart from the above advantages, there are a lot of upsells throughout the checkout and the Renewal pricing is quite shocking. And the confusing money-back guarantee didn’t please us. The biggest disadvantages are discussed below.

A lot of upsells

We think the number of upsells is the main reason making GoDaddy infamous. Their hosting plan cost depends on the amount of prepaid time. If you sign up for three years the monthly price would be $4.33. On the other hand, if you sign up for the three-month plan, the price would be $10.99 per month. Furthermore, they will try to sell a number of extra services at checkout that will add some bucks to your monthly price. They may double the price using that way.

Not only that, but you will also be shown upsells for Office 365 access, SSL Certificates, and “essential website security” which indicates malware scans and updates.
So, please be extra cautious at the checkout.

Base Plans lack Critical Features (no SSL certificate, Backups, Security or Site Migration)

As the SSL Certificate is necessary to run a site today, many hosts we know will offer an SSL certificate in all of their plans. Sadly, GoDaddy doesn’t do so. Automatically that will result in a number of upsells.
We’ll take their SSL certificate as an example. If you are not already paying for their plan, the pricing would be,

  • $63.99 per year for a single site ($79.99 per year after renewal)
  • $159.99 per year multiple sites ($199.99 per year after renewal)
  • $295.99 per year all subdomains ($369.99 per year renewal)

Actually these prices are too much. That is because most hosts will offer you a free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate for each and every site. And backups and website security even. However, backups cost you another $2.99 per month and website security $5.59 per month.

Then what about migration fees?

As you are already aware, most of the other hosts offer at least a single free migration. They can complete the migration within just a few hours. But not GoDaddy.
Even they don’t have a single free site migration. If you are getting that, they will charge $99.99 per site! And worse, it takes 7 to 10 days. Slower and expensive!
Furthermore you can just add all the extra fees over the few years and realize that GoDaddy is not cheap as it shows.

Higher renewal rates

The Economy plan of GoDaddy starts from $4.33 per month for three years. And all of their plans are designed with the use of industry-standard pricing trick. That is they double or triple the price when it’s renewal time.
As an example the Economy plan will rise to $8.99 per month once you renew. No added feature or service. Just the added price!

Confusing Money Back Guarantee

When looking from the sky, the money-back guarantee of GoDaddy is the same as other hosts who offers you an uncomplicated money-back guarantee within 30 days.
However, there are some issues with the GoDaddy money-back guarantee.
If you bought a “Monthly Plan” (3,6,9 months) you have to ask for a refund within 2 days. And you have to make a phone call to their customer service also. Once you call them they will try to talk you out of it even.
Similarly, they have some confusing terms also. An example of such a term is given below. Just read by yourself and try to understand.

“If a Hosting Service has already been performed, then it is non-refundable (if not yet performed, eligible for a refund within 30 days of the date of the transaction).“

As we understand, if you are trying to use the hosting plan an setting up a WordPress site, you must be violating that term. So they may deny your refund request.

What is our Recommendation?

Yes. We recommend GoDaddy.

With a strong uptime and faster page loading speeds, they work fine with the most famous web apps. And the initial pricing is a good value when you look at it from the above.
The cons will be many upsells for basic features and adding such features will double the cost of your plan. So the full cost will be more than the best web hosting providers.
Therefore we strongly recommend you to read other reviews of our site also.
